One-On-One Family Constellations
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing
There is a field. I’ll meet you there.”
What I truly appreciate about this poem is its allusion to family constellation work. This therapeutic approach to offering this work is the client’s focus on uncovering and resolving hidden dynamics with family systems that affect our behaviour, health and relationships.
I’d like to share something that happened when a client came for a session. She was having marital problems and had to deal with a father who had abandoned her at a young age, but who still demanded she support him. With three young children thrown into the mix, her problem was getting to the source of her dysfunctional relationships with men.
During our time together, I had the opportunity to go beyond her situation and uncover the deeper layers of these entanglements. She later reported how much better it was at home with her husband and how calmer her children felt. By getting to the source, and looking beyond here and now, we found a way to give each member of her family their rightful place free of entanglements.
When we start our session, I ask you to select semi-precious stones to act as ‘representatives.’ These people represent 7 generations of your ancestors. As we dive deeper you will begin to understand who you are to your family and what your life could be like if you freed yourself from carrying the burdens of those who came before you.
You will begin to understand your relationships with your Self and others. By embarking on this journey you can resolve past and current issues and bring balance to your family system.
