Selfology

Some loyalties are chosen. Most are not.

They begin before we have words. We learn, who belongs and who is missing, who needs to be protected and what it costs to be different.

We pick up the unspoken rules of our family: “Don’t outshine your mother. Don’e leave your father behind. Don’t be happier than those who came before you.”

Nobody says this out loud, and we live them anyway.

INVISIBLE CONTRACTS

In family constellation work, we call this invisible loyalty.

It is a deep, childlike love that says:

“I will carry this for you. I will stay small, stay stuck, stay silent, if it means I belong.”

It can look like:

  • Struggling financially because your family always struggled.
  • Choosing partners who need rescuing, just as someone in your lineage did.
  • Sabotaging success at the very moment it arrives.
  • Feeling guilty for being happier, freer, or more successful than your parents.
  • Carrying a grief or heaviness that has never quite felt like your own.

You may altready know the pattern. The hard paret is knowing it doesn’t loosen. The loyalty doesn’t just live in your thoughts. It lives in your nervous system. In your chest, in the way your shoulders tighten when you imagine stepping into a bigger life.

WHAT CONSTELLATIONS MAKES POSSIBLE

Family constellations doesn’t ask you to betray your family. They don’t blame you for cutting ties. They do something gentler and more powerful: they let you see.

When hidden dynamics come into the light, something shifts. You can honour what was carried without continuing to carry it. You can say to those who came before you. “I reclaim my place. Please look kindly on me if I live fully.”

Real loyalty means honouring where you come from and allowing the love to move through you as something lighter.

Your ancestors didn’t survive so that you could stay small. They would ask you to thrive.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

“Who am I still being loyal to? And what is it costing me?”

Notice where this sits in your body as you ask this pivotal question. Just notice.
