UNLOCKING CONNECTION, HEALING & HUMANITY

I want to share with you a profound passage I recently read from John O’Donohue in his book Anam Cara. As a massage therapist, it reminded me of why I continue to do this work after 25 years and having touched thousands of bodies.
“The sense of touch connects us to the world in an intimate way. Touch and the world of touch takes us out of the anonymity of distance into the intimacy of belonging. Touch brings presence home. We use the word ‘touching’ to describe the story which moves us deeply.”
Touch is one of the most fundamental ways we connect with the world. It’s the first sense we develop in the womb and the one that often remains strongest throughout our lives.
Despite its simplicity, touch is profoundly powerful. It nurtures bonds, promotes healing, and communicates emotions where often words fail.
In a world dominated by social media and technology, the power of touch can deepen relationships and enhance our sense of well-being. It reminds us of our shared humanity.
Experiencing touch in a safe and sacred way offers emotional support as well as releasing oxytocin, often called the love hormone which reduces stress and promotes a feeling of connection.
The element of touch transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries. A simple pat on the back, a firm handshake, or a warm hug communicates support and empathy without the need for words.
When your hands reach out to touch someone, you are saying, “I am here with you.” Having said this it’s important to respect personal boundaries and respect someone’s desire not to be touched.
One of our first senses when we emerge from our mother’s womb is touch. This is a universal need.
Please keep me informed about ‘selfology news’, workshops, seminars, meditations, yoga or any other related subjects. I am moving to Betty’s Bay for good mid March 2025, hoping to see more of you then. Thank you ♡
